When is chain link the right fence?

Chain link is the most affordable way to enclose a large area. It keeps dogs and kids in, marks a property line, and lets you see through for safety. It also works on slopes, since the mesh follows the ground better than rigid panels.

Galvanized or black vinyl-coated?

Galvanized chain link costs the least and has the familiar silver look. Black vinyl-coated chain link costs a little more but blends into landscaping and looks much cleaner next to a home. Near the coast, coated fabric and posts help with salt air.

Can I get privacy with chain link?

Yes. Privacy slats woven into the mesh block most of the view. Slats add cost and catch more wind, so posts and spacing need to account for that.

How much does chain link cost in Los Angeles?

As of October 2026, published ranges put installed chain link at about $10 to $40 per linear foot. Height, wire gauge, coating, slats and gates are what move the price. A 4-foot galvanized fence on flat ground sits at the low end; a 6-foot black-coated fence with slats sits toward the top.

What goes into a solid chain link install?

  • Terminal and gate posts set in concrete.
  • A top rail or tension wire so the fabric stays tight.
  • Fabric set close to grade where pets need to be contained.
  • Gate hardware that latches cleanly, including drive gates.

Chain link or something else?

Choose chain link if you need to enclose a lot of ground for the least money or contain pets. Choose wood or vinyl if privacy matters most. Choose commercial security fencing for lots and job sites that need heavier posts or barbed or razor top options where allowed.
